Naps aren't just for kids!

I napped twice this weekend, that's right, TWICE! And let me tell you, it was incredible! My life is not exactly boring these days so. I work full time (which in my industry is approx 60 hours per week!), and I am running my own wedding planning business. PLUS, I have a husband who I actually enjoy spending time with so needless to say naps are not an option these days!

These last few months have been insane. I'm carrying 4 brides right now who are getting married between May 2010-April 2011 and it's A LOT of work, especially on the weekends.

This weekend, however, we decided to spring clean and focus on only spring cleaning. We cleaned out each of our closets (I have 2, hubby has 1 just like it should be!). I even went as far as to make one closet casual and one closet work. So proud of myself for being so organized!

On Saturday, I got so worn out by cleaning my closets that I decided to take a nap. I said F it and just went for it! An hour later, I woke up and felt amazing! Sunday, we did a bunch of stuff and by 4:30pm we were beat so I laid on the couch, opened by book and started to read. Next thing I know, it's 6:30!!

I'm now thinking, what do I do with myself today? Is it awkward if I nap at 6 when I get home tonight? What if we all just incorporate an hour nap into our day? Wouldn't life be so much more amazing if we could have nap time!

Happy Monday everyone and enjoy your week! I'm off to West Palm Beach Thursday for a mini-vacation!

5 Reasons why I love Donovan McNabb

In light of recent rumors that my beloved Eagles QB may no longer be an Eagle, I thought I'd jot down my top 5 list of reasons why I love my QB:

1) The TO year! Seriously, it was great! Got us to the superbowl even when TO was injured late in the year. Yes, we lost, but it was a damn good season and wouldn't have happened without the amazing Donovan running the show

2) 2004 Super Bowl Throwup: How many of you dropped your jaw when in the 4th quarter, our boy hurled all over the field right before a new play. Amazing! I admire a man who can puke in public!

3) Have you ever seen a McNabb interview? He's pretty damn funny. Who else can make fun of themselves and be pretty funny doing it? And think of it this way, he doesn't do interviews with oven mitts on his hands, right? Everyone remember Fred Ex!?!!?!

4) Did everyone see playoffs this year against the Cowboys? More importantly did you catch McNabb walking out of the tunnel and onto the field? Pure hilarity, when he started dancing and ran up the glass wall to screw with the fans? HILARIOUS!!!!

5)The bubble butt. Don't act like you haven't noticed his bubble booty!

So there you have it. My love for McNabb will not fade even if he signs with St. Louis!

March Madness (from a Wife's Perspective)

I've lost my husband and I won't find him again until April. Why you ask? March Madness has begun! Now, I like to think I'm a rather modern woman and I love love love sports, but March Madness is a whole new level to me. I'm a huge football fan (GO EAGLES!) and I have never really done the whole basketball thing. So when I met my husband, I had no idea of this little obsession.

Here are the things I do know about what will happen this month in my house:
* A minimum of two brackets will be on my coffee table at all times with various amounts of crossing out and circles. Doesn't really match the decor, but I will be killed if I move it.
* Our DirectTV bill gets suspiciously higher in March and my husband has access to every single game available. Coincidence? I think not! Secretly buy the March Madness package without telling your wife? More like it.
* I lose all rights to my DVR and access to anything I love to watch. I am sent to the bedroom or office to watch my shows live (the horror!).
* The closer we get to Final Four, the more psycho my husband becomes. If I come into our living room to talk or god forbid ask questions about the game that's on, I get the hand and the look. You all know that look. It's the "why do you have to ruin my love of basketball with your girly questions" look.

I love my husband dearly, but I do count down the days until the Madness is over!

Drag Queens

I love Drag Queens. There. I said it! They are fantastic! How did I come to this revelation? Well, let me tell you. My girlfriends took me to a bar in Back Bay in Boston. Jacques. I had heard about Jacques before. They have drag shows and they are fabulous. That's all I needed to hear to know I had to see this for myself and what better time to do it than when you're turning 32!??!?!

So me and 3 of my girlfriends made a night out of it. We went to pre-game at the Back Bay Hotel and had fun martinis. We then went out to dinner. Service was horrible, restaurant will remain nameless. Then we went to Jacques. I was buzzing with excitement all week about this and I was like a little girl at an N Sync concert (or me at an N Sync concert at 32, but I digress!) We walk into the bar and it's a dump! This just makes it that much more wonderful. It's my kind of townie dive bar inside with a small stage and tables and chairs in front of it. We get there to find ourselves directly in front of a drag queen photo shoot happening before the show. We decided she's a wanna be for the show and that is part of her audition.

The show starts and these amazing "women" come on stage to Beyonce (of course!!). They all proceed to do a combo of solos and group performances for the next hour and a half. I was off my chair most of the time dancing and singing along with my new found BFF's! These ladies were THE BEST!!!

It was the most outrageous thing I've ever seen and now that I am reflecting back on it, I think about how much I admire them for what they do. Can you imagine a world where you do what you want, how you want, and don't give a crap what anyone else thinks? This is the world my new drag queen friends live in and I admire them for that! All of you who live in Boston or travel to Boston, don't leave the city before checking out the amazingness of Jacques!

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm off to Raleigh for a bridal shower!

The Center of the Universe

My husband and I spent Sunday afternoon walking around our town. It was great, we took about an hour and a half and just explored this lovely town we have grown to love and call home! It got me thinking: Not many people know why Waltham is so affectionately called by us that live there "The Center of the Universe". I'll tell you why with my top 5 places I love in Waltham:

1) Joe Sent Me: This is a bar in "the Ham" that I have frequented quite often. It's on Main Street in the middle of town and I simply love it. The inside is nothing special, it's just our local neighborhood bar. Everyone has one and for me, it's Joe Sent Me. They used to have a bucket of beers you could buy and for some strange reason, Waltham has apparently prohibited that. LAME! But it still doesn't stop me from drinking a bucket throughout the night! This place has great food, good drinks, fun townies, and awesome trivia. Oh and it's exactly one block from my house, what more could a girl ask for?

2) Cafe on the Common: I stumbled across this gem last year and it has since become a meeting place for my prosepctive and current clients. It's a great little coffee shop that serves ice cream. Again, what more could a girl ask for? It's right in the heart of Waltham and you could hang out there all day long catching up on your magazines!

3) Biagio: Who needs the North End when you can get great Italian food right on Moody Street? Biagio is a newer restaurant on the Moody scene and I've only been there a few times, but every time I go, it's amazing and we have a fun time! We even had fun there the night we took my parents and my mom started crying in the middle of the restaurant because she was remembering the happy looks both my brother and I had when we got married and she was hoping my little brother would have that look someday when he meets a "nice" girl. Yup, that's Fancy for you (Fancy is my mom's nickname!). She's adorable and cries in restaurants!

4) More Than Words Bookstore: I just found this gem on Sunday during our walk. I had no idea it was in Waltham, but now that I do, I'll be spending some decent time there! We came across this store because I am obsessed with cute little shops that are not commercial. This is exactly what this place is. Nestled right in the middle of Moody Street, More than Words is a great little bookstore and cafe. I ordered a rasberry iced tea and started browsing. 30 Minutes later, I left with two books and wanted to come back for more!

5) Joseph's Restaurant: BEST.BREAKFAST.IN.TOWN. Enough said. Drive by Joseph's anytime on Sunday morning or afternoon and the line is out the door. What I love most about Joseph's are the customers and weight staff. The waitresses are these great little ladies who don't take nonsense from anyone. The people that come in are two kinds of people: Older people with families and hungover college students. It's awesome and we often sit and wonder what everyone did the night before that got them looking the way they do on Sunday at Joseph's! If you roll out of bed and throw on sweatpants, you'll fit right in at this place! They are GREAT!

So here's to you Waltham. I love living in your fun town and I look forward to finding more great places to go and things to do!

Weight Update

I lost 1.2 lbs this week! It's good news, but not enough to make a difference in the big 40 dent. I know slow weight loss is the way to go, but lipo looks nice right about now!

To be fair to the process, I didn't count my weight watchers points last night because when I get hungry and want something bad, I act like they are free points and if I don't record them, I didn't eat them. Don't judge me, but seriously, sometimes counting points is ridiculous!

Overall, the week was great. I ate super healthy (except last night I splurged on pasta!) and I worked out 4 days (2 of them being crazy spin classes!)I burned over 2,000 calories. I apparently need to burn 3,500 in order to lose 1 pound, but as you can see, that math doesn't always work especially if you're eating healthy! This weekend will be challenging for working out as I am seeing clients all day Saturday and then doing fun stuff Sunday. I don't do fun very often these days, so I'm taking Sunday and I'm making it fun!

It's all about the balance you have in your life and I need to find that! Eating brunch at Stepahnie's on Sunday to start my day and I'll see where the city takes me from there!

Future Mrs. Wahlberg

When are you a fan versus a stalker? I often wonder this when I think about my obsession with a little known boy band (the original!). I first heard New Kids on the Block when I was about 12ish and I immediately fell IN LOVE with this band. Had to have the tapes (yes tapes!), had to have the buttons (the big ones, not the normal size) and had to have the posters. Even tooks pictures (with my pink Le Click camera) of the posters and hung the pictures next to the posters. Yes, I was obsessed.

Then it all came crashing down when they stopped making music. Even when they went through that weird NKOTB phase, I was a fan! Then a spark hit when Jordan came out with a song a few years ago (loved it!). I watched a VH1 special a few years ago where they tried to get old bands back together. NKOTB was on there list of bands. So for 30 minutes I watched in anticipation as some talk show host tried to get Joey, Jonathan, Danny, Donnie, and Jordan back together for one night! I was CRUSHED when at the end of the show, many members of the band wouldn't even be filmed. I knew that my dreams of seeing my fave boy band make a come back were slim to none.

So imagine my surprise when last year they announce a comeback! All women my age were going crazy (you're lying if you say you weren't!) I of course immediately did the following things:
1) Looked around for all my CD's that I had from them (including the Christmas CD!)
2) Looked around for any memorabilia I had.
3) Became a fan of their newly formed comeback website so of course I can be the FIRST to know about anything going on.
4) Pre-ordered their new CD (The Block!)

When I got the CD, I memorized every single song because I would be going to the concert (obviously!) and will need to sing along to every song. Not only did I go to the concert, but I went to their special Christmas concert and loved every second of it!

Now a year has gone by since they announced their comeback and I'm reflecting on if I'm just a fan or if I'm totally obsessed. I might mention that I did stalk Donnie at a Celtics game a few months ago and successfully met him and it MADE MY LIFE. I chose to remain optimistic about this and say it's just me wanting to recapture my youth and not be a total stalker.

So here's to you NKOTB. Thanks for a kick ass year of fun times remembering the times of Please Don't Go Girl and Hanging Tough and thanks for introducing some fun new songs to my IPod this year!
